Despite the warning about never working with animals or children I have done both on more than one occasion. Here are some examples of my encounters with animals (more can be seen on the Portraits page of my website). Although I have shot pet portraits in the studio I find that the experience of going into a strange environment can be unsettling for the animal, and it is a more relaxing experience all round to take photos in the animal’s familiar surroundings. Although I’m happy to spend an hour or more to get the right shot it’s often the case that the animal has less patience than I do, so the best shots often come quite quickly.
Horses probably have even less patience than dogs, and won’t hesitate to let you know when they’ve had enough (and who am I to argue?)
If you’re looking for some portraits of your companion animal please contact me to discuss your requirements – my rates are very reasonable.
You can see more pet portraits in previous blog posts here and here.
